Darts Champion Humphries Crushes Van Gerwen in German Grand Prix Final

On Monday evening in Munich, world champion Luke Humphries delivered a dominant performance, crushing Michael van Gerwen 8-1 to claim the German Darts Grand Prix title. Humphries’ incredible showing included an average score of 112.66, the second-highest ever recorded in a European Tour final.

The Englishman’s path to the final saw him battle through the tournament, defeating players such as Luke Woodhouse, Ryan Joyce, Danny Noppert, and Gerwyn Price. This victory marks Humphries’ sixth European Tour title.

Despite van Gerwen’s strong start, winning the first leg, “Cool Hand” Humphries soon stormed back, taking the next eight legs in a row to secure a convincing victory. The Dutchman, who reached a record-extending 48th final, acknowledged Humphries’ exceptional display.

Humphries was thrilled with his performance, telling the PDC, “I was just unbeatable there to be honest and I’m really, really proud of the way I’ve played this weekend. That’s the level you have to be to win nowadays.”

The young gun Luke Littler, fresh from winning his first outright night in the Premier League last Thursday in Belfast, did not qualify for the German event. All three players, Humphries, van Gerwen, and Littler, will return to action on Thursday for night ten of the Premier League in Manchester.
